WLPA
PALM & PDA HOT SYNCH INSTRUCTIONS
Last Updated: December 1, 2003
Greetings Fellow Palm and PDA Users:
It is relatively easy to configure your Palm-compatible synchronization software to automatically download the current WLPA Ride Schedule, in a clean format suitable for viewing on your Palm organizer. The software works (I am told) with a variety of PDAs, including Palm OS, Palm OS 5, Windows CE, PocketPC, Symbian OS (Series 60) Mobile Phones and RIM Blackberry devices. The capability is available through a free websiteAvantGo.comwhich is configured to download information from any internet site and automatically install it on your Palm every time you perform a hot synch.
Initially, after reading these instructions all the way through, go to the AvantGo website by clicking the link below, and follow all of the instructions to download the requisite software, and configure your Palm to receive data from AvantGo. For example, you can get the front page of the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, sports pages, local weather, etc. Every time you perform a hot synch it will download the current data from the internet, replacing the avantgo data on your palm organizer.
AvantGo.com also allows you to designate custom sites (i.e., not the ones AvantGo offers you) for downloading. After you have configured AvantGo and confirmed that it works for you, return to AvantGo.com and follow the instructions for adding a custom download site. When you get to the point at which you can add the name of the custom site, type in (or, cut and paste) the followwing URL:
http://www.westenlaw.com/wlpa/html/palm.html
That is a special page of the WLPA website with the same data as the first pagei.e., the ride schedulebut without formatting. In other words, it is in a tidy format to display on the Palm.
When you create this special link at AvantGo, you may give the link a title. I suggest using WLPA.
After you have performed a hot synch, launch the program AvantGo. You'll see a table of contents containing all the internet data you have designated for downloading. One of them, probably the last, will be WLPA. Tap on that word, and VOILÁ you'll see the current WLPA Ride Schedule.
(Mac OS X: Finally, there is a Mac OS X conduit that allows synchronizatin with AvantGo in the normal way. The following link will give you information on the software for OS X: Link to MAL Conduit 1.0.2 (for OS X)
